The Perfect Coffee

Step one:

Go to the kitchen.

Step two:

Make it how ever the heck you want.

I am literally SO tired of our culture telling us about perfection and what it should look like. So here is a pro tip for you on coffee…

Stop listening to everyone else and start listening to your taste buds. They are the ones that are gonna tell how to froth, and brew, and steep, and pour. I would just love it if we could find it in our hearts to fully be ourselves in the kitchen. I wonder if people who say they can’t cook are just so paralyzed by fear of not being good enough. I know when I first started becoming a little chef I was freaking out that I wasn’t going to be as good as my mom. And now in my 30s, I still cringe sometimes when my latte is weak.

But who the hell cares?

That precious moment of art and caffeine is for us and us alone. A special time to savor one of God’s most delightful gifts on earth….

Guatemalan roasted beans (that’s what I’m drinking right now)

So since this is the “Moments”/”Creativity” section of the blog, I will actually give you a recipe for a good old fashioned cuppa Joe. I just wanted to break off some of the pressure.

I clearly have a favorite mug style lol.

Okay so let’s dive in.

I have spent over 12 years figuring out what I like and it truly ebbs and flows. Right now on my health journey I am realizing that I can only do caffeine about once or twice a week, so I go for SUPER bold. Other seasons of my life have been that PERFECT light, nutty, fruity, carmely roast of Kona Coffee. (Right picture from here)

So start experimenting. What do YOU like? Do you wanna jazz out and never stop? Then go for a light roast. Do you wanna grow a beard and chop wood? Then go for a dark roast and get out in nature. haha

The sky is the limit.

Next, decide if you like black coffee or fluffy white lattes’s. Or maybe a North Shore bullet coffee. (coffee with coconut oil or butter)

If you like black coffee there are several methods. Pour over, French press, cold brew, good ole coffee maker and so many more. Those are just the ones I can think of. In my casita I do single cup pour over and French press. Both so dang good. I have a little grinder (not expensive because budget, duh) and I grind them right before I brew. I also have a gooseneck kettle that was given to me for Christmas one year. So priceless for my bougie wannabe side.

But honestly, when I go to a diner, I drink their probably Foldgers coffee. I’m sure the coffee community is ready to throw me in a ditch but it literally just goes with the ambiance. Greasy food, watered down coffee. hahaha doesn't get much better than that.

If you like a little fancier of a cup, a fresh made latte is like a warm spring day…. or a baby chicken, or a cloud from Oz. The cozy milk froth is just transformational. I use a mocha pot and brew some espresso on the stove. Then for cream I use lactose free whole milk, warm it up, and froth it with a hand held frother. So simple. I add a little honey or maple syrup and sip my way into heavenly freedom.

It really is that simple. Follow your heart, follow your own taste buds and ambiance vibes. And b r e a t h e. This coffee moment is meant to be enjoyed.

Java on!
